The Unseen Realm: Open My Eyes

Watch this sermon here.

Big Idea

The unseen realm is real, but our confidence is not in understanding darkness. Our confidence is in knowing Christ, walking with His Spirit, and seeing through the truth of God's Word.

Foundational Scriptures

  • 2 Kings 6:17

  • Ephesians 6:12

  • Colossians 1:16

  • Hebrews 5:14

Reality Is Bigger Than What We See

  • The Bible reveals there is more to reality than what is visible.

  • The unseen realm is real.

  • The question is not whether there is a spiritual realm, but whether we have the discernment to recognize what God is doing.

1. The Invisible Created the Visible

Scripture: Hebrews 11:3

Main Points

  • The visible world was created by the invisible God.

  • The unseen is not imaginary.

  • The unseen is the foundation of what we see.

  • God's activity is not limited to what our natural eyes can perceive.

2. God Opens Our Eyes to What Is Already True

Scripture: 2 Kings 6:15–17

Main Points

  • Elisha's servant saw only the enemy army.

  • Elisha saw God's greater reality.

  • The situation never changed—only their spiritual perception did.

  • God did not create victory in that moment; He revealed what was already there.

"Faith does not ignore reality. Faith sees reality through God's perspective."

3. The Battle Is Over What Voice We Trust

Scriptures: Genesis 3:1; Matthew 24:4

Main Points

  • The enemy's first strategy was deception.

  • Satan questioned God's Word and distorted truth.

  • Discernment begins with knowing the voice of God.

Questions to Ask

  • Does this agree with Scripture?

  • Does this reveal Christ?

  • Does this produce faith and obedience?

4. Discernment Must Be Developed

Scripture: Hebrews 5:14

Main Points

  • Spiritual maturity requires trained discernment.

  • Discernment is not fear.

  • Discernment is not suspicion.

  • Discernment is not chasing mysteries.

  • Discernment is recognizing God's voice.

  • Discernment is understanding God's Word.

  • Discernment is walking with the Holy Spirit.

"The goal is not to become experts on darkness. The goal is to become people who know Jesus so well that deception becomes recognizable."
